May 2007 -- Pressure Systems, Inc. (PSI) is pleased to announce that the waterMONITOR series in our line of KPSI™ Level and Pressure Transducers is now RoHS compliant. As a responsible supplier of environmental instrumentation, we are keenly aware of the importance in manufacturing products that are safe to operate and harmless to our environment. Although KPSI Transducers are in a category that is exempt from regulation, the voluntary introduction of RoHS compliance to the waterMONITOR product line is representative of our commitment to this cause.
The Restriction of the Use of Certain Hazardous Substances (RoHS) affects producers of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) marketing their products to countries in the European Union. The regulations became enforceable on July 1, 2006. In general, the regulations seek to limit the amount of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) in EEE products. Producers must be able to demonstrate compliance by submitting technical documentation to any EU investigating authority on request and retain documentation for four years after the EEE is placed on the market.
There are ten categories of EEE outlined by RoHS and our transducers fall into category 9: Monitoring and Control Instrumentation. This category is currently exempt from the RoHS directives, meaning that manufacturers of this type of equipment are not required to comply with the regulations. PSI, however, has adopted a proactive approach with the waterMONITOR product line. The waterMONITOR has the greatest “electronic content” of any of our transducers, and hence the highest potential for lead in components and solder. For this reason, the waterMONITOR series became our first priority in addressing RoHS.
Effective immediately, the waterMONITOR series, including models 550, 551, 552, 553, 561, 570 and 571, is RoHS compliant. This compliance covers not only the transducer, but related peripherals and accessories such as cables, converters and vent filters. We are also pleased to announce that these products are available with no increase in price or lead time.
The waterMONITOR product line will feature PSI’s new RoHS compliant symbol. Look for this identification on more of our products in the future, as we continue our voluntary design efforts to meet these stringent standards. Please contact the PSI sales team with any questions you might have. |
